How Does the National Digital Health Mission Work?
The NDHM is a government initiative to create a digital health ecosystem in India. It aims to provide universal health coverage, citizen-centric services, quality of care, and accountability for performance.
The NDHM works by creating a unique health ID for every citizen. You may use it to access and share your health records digitally. The health ID is linked to a health account with a self-declared username that enables you to control who can access your health data. Using the ABHA application, a consent manager facilitating health data exchange, you can create a health account using the ABHA application.
The NDHM also provides other digital services, such as health registries, e-pharmacy, telemedicine, and personal health records. These services are open, interoperable, and standards-based digital systems that ensure health-related personal information security, confidentiality, and privacy. The NDHM aims to bridge the gap between different healthcare ecosystem stakeholders, such as healthcare providers, payers, researchers, and citizens.
