How to Link Aadhaar with PAN Card?

How to Link Aadhaar with PAN Card?

How to Link Aadhaar with PAN Card?

Many processes have been introduced to link your Aadhar number with your PAN (Permanent Account Number). For some services, such as filing income tax returns or availing of loans, it is mandatory to link Aadhaar with PAN.

Checking your PAN Aadhaar link status is simple, as you can keep track of the process online and offline. Read on to learn more about checking the status and more details about the process.

  • How to Check if your Aadhaar and PAN Card are Linked?

While filing your income tax returns, if your PAN-Aadhaar link is incomplete, the Income Tax Department cannot process your returns. It is important to link them because of two reasons – in case there is a trivial mismatch in the details or if your name is identical in both databases.

To link your link Aadhaar with your PAN or to check the PAN Aadhaar link status, you only need to visit the Income Tax Department's e-Filing portal and follow an easy and simple process online.

    • Mobile Banner Image

Visit the official Income Tax Department portal and click on the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ on the homepage.

    • Mobile Banner Image

Next, enter your Aadhar number and PAN details, and click on “View Link Aadhar status.”

    • Mobile Banner Image

In case your PAN and Aadhaar are not linked, a pop-up notification will be visible with a hyperlink to proceed with the linking.

  • Check the PAN-Aadhaar Status via SMS

You can track the linking status of your Aadhaar-PAN through the SMS facility too.

Send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 as shown below:

    • UIDPAN < 12-digit Aadhaar number> < 10-digit Permanent Account Number>

    • Once your Aadhaar is linked with your PAN, you will be able to view the message confirming the same from the Income Tax Department database.

Importance of Linking Aadhaar Card with PAN Card

There are a few benefits of completing the PAN-Aadhaar link process for these reasons:

  • Keep your PAN Active

If you have not linked your Aadhar and PAN, you have a deadline till March 31, 2023. After that, your PAN card will be deactivated, which means you do not have a valid PAN. This can lead to issues with financial transactions as the PAN is an important document.

  • One Aadhar, One PAN

Many people have multiple PAN cards issued in their name, which can confuse the Income Tax Department. To avoid this, the linking process ensures a single reference point for all details for tax officials as well as the users.

  • Seamless Processes

By linking your Aadhar and PAN, you can ensure that your income tax returns are processed without any issues. Not linking these two will lead to your income tax form being rejected by the Income Tax Department.

  • Tax Planning

You will be able to receive a complete summary of all your taxes. This will help you keep track of the taxes levied on you. With this information, you can ensure better tax planning and avail of tax benefits, wherever applicable.

  • Methods to Link Aadhaar with PAN Card

It is crucial to link your Aadhaar with your PAN so that any transactions or Aadhar-related services can be processed smoothly for you. There are a few ways to link your PAN with Aadhar. Here is how you can go about it:

Linking PAN with Aadhaar Online (Through the e-filing Website)

    • Visit the Income Tax Department’s official portal.

    • Go to ‘Quick Links’ and click ‘Link Aadhaar’. Mention your PAN and Aadhaar number.

    • Fill in other details like your name on your Aadhaar (just as mentioned on your Aadhar card) and your mobile number.

    • Check the square for the birth year as shown on your Aadhaar card, and also get your Aadhaar details validated. Then proceed to ‘Link Aadhaar’.

    • You will see a captcha code which you will have to enter. If you are visually impaired, you can request an OTP instead, which will be sent to your registered mobile number.

Linking PAN with Aadhaar by Sending an SMS

Here is how you can link your PAN with Aadhaar by sending an SMS:

    • Type UIDPAN <space> your 12-digit Aadhaar <space> your 10-digit PAN on your mobile text messages page

    • Send this message to 567678 or 56161

  • Correcting Aadhaar Card and PAN Card Details

PAN and Aadhaar card linking is successful only when all your details in both documents match. In case there are errors such as spelling mistakes in your name, your PAN will not be linked with your Aadhaar.

You can make changes by visiting a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or through the portal of NSDL PAN. If there are errors in your PAN Card, you can correct them by following these steps:

    • You can correct your PAN details online using the NSDL (Protean) website.

    • Go to ‘Services’ → ‘PAN’. Scroll down to ‘Change/Correction in PAN data’.

    • You will be redirected to the page where you can apply for your name correction.

    • Submit signed digital documents to get your PAN details updated

    • Once your details are corrected in your PAN and confirmed by NSDL over an email, you can link your PAN with your Aadhaar.
